Grocery Shopping on a Budget

I love love love grocery shopping. The not-so-fun part: spending money. To keep our grocery bills low, it does take a little bit of planning reading ads, cutting coupons, printing coupons. Fortunately, I love planning to go grocery shopping too!

We’re lucky to live by a whole bunch of grocery stores & supercenters, so I usually buy food a few times a week whenever we run out of apples Smile

(To save money on apples, I usually buy whatever kind is the cheapest. 99 cents/lb is my go-to price, and I go for smaller apples so I can get more for the same price!)

Grocery Shopping Basics:

  • Read over grocery ads, and make a list before going to the store (try to stick to your list, unless you find an amazing deal that can’t be passed up!)
  • Check if grocery stores in your area double/triple manufacturer coupons – I’ve been able to get free whole wheat pasta and cups of greek yogurt at Randalls!
  • If you don’t have a store loyalty card, run, don’t walk, to get one (for free). Most stores have coupons on their websites that you can load directly to your card, and Kroger mails me coupons for products I buy every month or two.
  • Don’t be afraid of store brands – they’re usually quite a bit cheaper and taste the same.

Store brand items that I frequently buy:

-Oatmeal

-Canned beans

-Baby carrots

-Yogurt (regular & Greek)

-Frozen veggies

-String cheese

-Peanut butter (Target’s Archer Farms is sooo tasty!)

-Frozen fruit

Store brand items that I stay away from:

-Toilet paper (I usually can get name-brand for better prices anyways, when a good sale/coupon comes out!)
